What is IV Therapy?

Intravenous (IV) nutrient therapy delivers a combination of vitamins, minerals and amino acids in order to replenish deficiencies, target specific health conditions, and enhance overall health. Individual nutrients are selected based on your unique requirements and administered in a customized formula to target your health goals. IV therapy is a form of parenteral therapy.

What is IV Therapy used to treat?

Besides rehydration, IV therapy is used to regulate the immune system, fight infection, increase antioxidant status, manage chronic stress and much more. Some of the most common reasons for using IV Therapy include:

  • Energy

  • Immune function

  • Fertility

  • Detoxification

  • Hormone balance

  • Digestive health

  • Stress

  • Mood

  • Sleep

What are IM injections?

Individualized Intramuscular (IM) injections are formulated to support a variety of health concerns. The most common would be a vitamin B-12 shot to replenish this vitamin that is implicated in energy pathways, blood building, and cell division. IM injections offer a rapid delivery system for nutrient absorption.

What types of IM injections can I get?

  • B-12

  • Hormone balance

  • Energy

  • Immune

  • Weight loss

What are the advantages of IV Nutrient Therapy?

Intravenous (IV) and Intramuscular (IM) injection therapy provide much better delivery and absorption compared to oral or sublingual supplementation. Nutrients administered by IV bypass first pass metabolism, a natural pathway that nutrients take when they are administered orally. First pass metabolism is a process where nutrients first travel to the liver for metabolism before the nutrients are bioavailable in the bloodstream. When nutrients go through first pass metabolism, only a fraction of the original dose ever becomes bioavailable (i.e. available for the body to use). By definition, IV administration delivers nutrients straight into the bloodstream so they are 100% bioavailable!

IM administration is the best delivery system for small volumes of nutrients that I want to have a long duration of action. Muscle tissue is highly vascularized, so the nutrients easily travel into the bloodstream in order to be used by the body. However, IM injections do not do directly into the bloodstream, the nutrients must diffuse slowly from the muscle tissue into the surrounding vasculature. This process of diffusion takes time, and allows for a slightly longer duration of action of IM nutrients.

Oxidative stress is a marker of premature aging, degenerative disease states, and precancerous cellular changes. For those who are interested in optimizing overall health, preventative medicine, and anti-aging, IV therapy offers the delivery of high concentrations of potent antioxidants to combat oxidative stress and support graceful aging.

WHAT nutrients ARE ADMINISTERED?

The type of parenteral therapy (IV or IM injection) will vary depending on the purpose of the treatment and the nutrients being administered. Certain nutrients are be administered both IV and IM, which others can only be administered one of those ways. A variety of nutrients can be used including vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, electrolytes, and botanicals. These formulations are often prescribed as part of a comprehensive individualize treatment plan.
